1. It's been a super-busy first quarter of the year for me, so this is
coming out a little late, and it's a bit longer than usual. Forany of
you who are new to the list - welcome! Big thanks to my wife Jen for
helping out with data entry the past few months. If not for her,
hundreds of you would not be getting this.
The last three months have been a mixture of touring in the US and
Canada, as well as lots of studio work and some time for family.
There are some new pictures of me, and of the new baby (Django) and
Sophia on the photo page of my main site. I also want to point out a
cool web item called "Demand It" that allows you to spread the word
about my music to friends in your area and build a critical mass of
people, so that I can come and play there (see the front page of my
site). Hope you are all having a wonderful Spring.
2. For those of you in Germany or Holland - I will be returning to
Europe in the Fall with Al Stewart! I'm really excited about it. For
details and news, please keep an eye on my European website
(www.davenach.eu). Also, there are plans for a possible solo Dave
tour in Europe in the spring of 2009!
3. I've just recently picked up a digital video camera and will be
posting clips to "Youtube" and various sites as often as I can. Since
it is Passover week - I've put "Let's Eat" up and would love to see
what happens if everyone on the list (1) watches it, and (2) sends
the link to every friend that they think might enjoy it, and if they
are really keen - (3) writes a comment about it. I'm also planning to
start keeping some sort of "vlog" (a video blog I guess). Here's the
link for "Let's Eat" -
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkaUQH9hTO4
4. In all this web activity, I'm not alone. Through some musician
friends, I discovered a young man named Jared Ingersol
(jaredingersol.com). In just a few short weeks, he has helped me make
huge progress on both MySpace and Facebook. If you are not already a
"friend" please feel free to "add" me. I'd also like to
thank my friend Anna Bass who got the Myspace page started, and
Patrick Neals, who got me into Facebook.
5. Before the European tour, there are quite a few US shows coming up
(mostly with Al Stewart). See the calendar listings at
www.davenach.com/calendar.html for details. If I will be playing
somewhere near you and you'd like to set up a house concert or
workshops, please send an email (dave@davenach.com). Speaking of
which, I'll be doing a solo house concert in Seattle on June 27 at my
friend Erin's, so make reservations early if you'd like to come!
6. I have often written about the remarkable family with 43 boys,
with whom I've recorded several CDs (allourboys.com). There was just a
really nice article about them, and about our work together, in the
Huntington Independent by a writer named Chris Epting. You can read
it at:
http://www.hbindependent.com/articles/2008/04/17/columns/hbi-pipeline04172008.txt
7. If you've heard my song "George's Corner"
then you'll be familiar witih George Swabo and his public garden. I
recently saw George at our local grocery store and learned that he'd
been hit by a car while riding his bike. He's got a fractured
shoulder, but seems to be doing pretty well. However, if anyone would
like to send him a card and/or donation, I know he'd be very grateful.
He gets mail at PO BOX 72841, Davis, CA 95617. He has severe glaucoma,
so write BIG. I'm not sure if he can take checks, so just send a
little cash to him if you can. Thanks!
8. If you've made it this far, you are probably a close friend or
relation (thanks Mom and Dad!)... So although I may regret doing this
- in this section, I'm inviting you to let me know what you would like
me to do on my next CD. I'm hoping to record something later this
year. Would you like more rockin' songs? More acoustic stuff?
Morestory songs? Lots of big words? Less big words? Any suggestions as
to what sort of things you'd like to see in the "vlogs" would be
welcome too.
9. Finally - some of you have asked what you can do to help me keep
on making more music. There are many things that would be helpful, but
here are a few suggestions for fun ways to spread the word and
help the cause if you like:
- Arrange to come to a show and help sell CDs for me.
- Put together a cool video using one of my songs as the music, and
post it to YouTube.
- Order some of my CDs (email me about volume discounts) and give
them to all your friends as presents.
- Help organize a house concert and invite all your friends. Or just
try to bring a bunch of friends to come and hear me at a regular
concert.
- Put a link on your website (if you have one), or add me to your
"favorites" list on Facebook or Myspace.
- Write a short review for either Amazon.com, my CDbaby.com pages, or
for any music review site that accepts outside reviewers etc...
- If you are a musician, record a video of yourself playing one of my
songs and send it to me - I'll set up a page for just those clips.
10. Whether or not we'll meet up at any of my upcoming concerts and
workshops, I like to hear your thoughts and comments and suggestions
and general news. Please respond to this e-mail, or e-mail me
directly (dave@davenach.com) or call me at 530-757-1021, or use postal
mail to P.O. Box 4111, Davis, CA 95617.
THANKS! I HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
