1. Hope this newsletter finds you getting off to a good start for
the new year! This is the first newsletter since our baby boy was
born on October 17. Django (after the legendary guitarist,
Django Reinhardt) is a very cute little guy and I put a few pictures
at the bottom of my photo page on davenach.com. Sophia is
doing a great job as a big sister. I had to head out one week after
the birth for a tour to the Northwest, followed quickly by a wonderful,
packed, East Coast tour. Liz Bligan and Mike Lindauer played some
of the shows out East, and with no practice we sounded surprisingly
like a real band. In early December, the boys from the Silcock family
and I wrote 19 songs in 5 days. In the fall I also recorded some
interesting custom songs and workshop songs.
For those of you following the careers of my illustrious brothers -
Michael won his Supreme Court Case (Kimbrough) 7 to 2. Go Michael!
And Jeffrey has finished filming the movie that he is directing
("Traitor") and hard at work editing the film.
2. I've got two solo house concerts and a church concert coming up
that I want to let you know about even if you are not in these areas
(you may be able to send family or friends along).
The first one is coming up very fast - on February 1st in Oceanside,
CA near San Diego and was organized by my friend Mark Smith. It's
unusual for me to do a solo show in Southern, CA so please make
reservations with Mark if you live in the area. Here's the main
info:
Where: Robbie & Keith's
When: Friday, February 1st
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Please R.S.V.P. by January 29th: +1 (760) 945-7184

Soroptimist International of Oceanside helping underprivileged women
If you've never been to a house concert - it is a great way to hear music.
The second show is a little further off (February 29th) up in Klamath
Falls, OR. It's being organized by an artist named Stefan Savides who
does sculptures of birds and who also plays harmonica! He's promised
to sit in with me on a few songs, so it should be a blast. Here's the
info for the concert:
Where: Stefan's
When: Friday, February 29th
Time: 7:30pm
Please call Stefan to reserve seats, advance reservations are
required. Call +1 (541) 885-2912. Suggested donation $15. For more
about Stefan visit www.aviandesign.com
Finally, on April 6th, I'll be doing a concert in Ross, CA (Marin
County north of San Francisco) at St. John's Episcopal Church
(www.stjohnsmusic.org). This is the venue that Al and I played last
year, and the concert is organized by my good friend Louis Weiner.
Should be a very special night, so if you are in the greater Bay Area,
please do come check it out. Details can be found on the St. John's
Music site.
3. As if the touring weren't enough to keep me on my toes, I
finished work on Liz Bligan's CD "For the Fun of It" which is finally
out and available on CDbaby.com you can listen to clips at
www.cdbaby.com/cd/lizbligan. Liz is a great singer, and to my delight,
she chose to reinterpret four of my songs, as well as some classic
covers. In addition, the second CD of songs by the Silcock family is
finally available. It's called "Team Silcock" and it features some of
the boys singing on a number of the tracks. All the proceeds go to
the family's non-profit organization. For more on this amazing
family, visit www.allourboys.com, and to listen to clips go to
www.cdbaby.com/cd/silcockfamily2.
4. I continue to tour with the always-entertaining Al Stewart, and
we'll be scattered all over the US in the coming months. We will be
doing some dates in Ontario, Canada in March! For more details see
the calendar listings on davenach.com.
5. Meanwhile, the studio remains busy, with a project from a young
singer/songwriter named Britton Miller in progress, hopefully ready for
release later this year. For a sample check out his Myspace site at
myspace.com/brittonjmiller. Bruce Kalter and I are working on a
historical epic about the Codetalkers who served in WWII. I've just
finished recording two songs written in song workshops in Ramsey, NJ
which will soon be available on a compilation CD in honor of the
town's Centennial. And I'm starting work on the third Silcock CD next
week.
With the new baby, I'm more interested than ever in doing custom
songs and production and session work in my studio here in Nachville.
Please contact me with any project ideas.
6. Whether or not we'll meet up at any of my upcoming concerts and
workshops, I like to hear your thoughts and comments and suggestions
and general news. Please respond to this e-mail, or e-mail me
directly (dave(at)davenach.com), or call me at +1 530-757-1021,
or use postal mail to P.O. Box 4111, Davis, CA 95617.
THANKS! I HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
