Pink carnations, verdant ferns and golden marigolds

All three garden photos courtesy of UC Davis graduate Philip Neustrom, many thanks Philip!
Dave met George the other day ...
and was told he had actually paused doing the garden,
because there were some other people
who kept tearing out the plants that he puts in.
So he just got fed up for a day or two. But towards the end
of their conversation, George sounded bent on resuming work!
Here is Ken Widmann's true story on George, the corner, Joanne,
Professor Jim, Rodney, and a guy named David who has a guitar:

... and the lyrics:
George's Corner
(by Dave Nachmanoff)
At the corner of 2nd and L streets | there used to be nothing at all
The railroad tracks on the south side, | to the west the substation wall
Now there's baskets full of plants and flowers | carefully arranged
And big rocks splashed with colors, | of day-glo fluorescent paint
CHORUS: When I drive by George's Corner, | it always puts a smile upon my face
We each could pick a corner of our own to try to make a better place
I don't know if George is homeless, | he rides a bike everywhere
With grizzled beard, and baseball cap | pulled over shortcropped hair
His face is worn and weathered, | he's got periwinkle eyes
A gardener, a neighbor, an artist, | he works and beautifies
(CHORUS)
Most of us are rushing 'round, | commanded by the calendar and clock
No time to improve things, | or wonder when the treadmill's gonna stop
(CHORUS)
The corner changes with the seasons, | sometimes from week to week
He's out there in the autumn chill, | or the burning summer heat
I've seen pink carnations, verdant ferns, | and golden marigolds
Sometimes it's just rocks and sticks | in the winter when it's cold
(CHORUS)

Too Much Water
(Dave Nachmanoff). Music & Words by Dave Nachmanoff
Audioplay featuring one of Dave's previously unreleased songs

A Child’s Right to be Heard
(Words & Music by Danny, Daniel & Simon from Surrey, UK and Dave Nachmanoff)
When I first went into care, I felt so confused.
It seemed like the authorities didn’t want to hear my views.
I didn’t know, if I was safe, the lines had all been blurred.
Would anybody recognise a child’s right to be heard?
I asked to see my family and stay at my old school.
They didn’t find a place near by and so I had to move.
Too shy to express myself, they didn’t hear a word.
Nobody seemed to recognise, a child’s right to be heard.
A week ago on Tuesday, my care plan was reviewed.
I was told about my right to speak and now things can improve.
Well now I’m being listened to and now I have a say.
Now I’ve got some input on decisions that are made.
Looking back, at the past, it all seems so absurd.
It’s finally time to recognise, a child’s right to be heard.
It’s finally time to recognise ………… a child’s right to be heard.

Bruce's Songs Collection
|
Newcomer lyricist Bruce Kalter (l.) and Dave discussed |
Dave Nachmanoff has been busy writing many new songs
with lyricist Bruce Kalter. In between Dave's solo gigs
and house concerts and his touring dates with Al Stewart,
Dave has managed to work on several new songs.
Both Dave and Bruce expect to produce a CD next year
that will contain all of the Bruce-and-Dave collaborations,
including the songs that have been
on Dave's web sites plus many more.
Bruce says,
"If we really do come out with this album,
it will include a variety of songs. We have love songs,
portraits of real people, and story songs.
And there are many different styles, as I always like to try
different style of songs when I give my lyrics to Dave.
The only commonality is that I have to personally like them!
So we have soft ballads, rockabilly, calypso, and even a non-fiction historical epic.
Yes, the latter was my take on writing a history song that Al Stewart would be proud of.
Dave always gets the tone and the tune just right!"
He even wrote one song after having a dinner conversation with Mr. Al Stewart.
So inspiration comes from all sources. To date, Dave & Bruce have co-written 12 songs.
Some of the new tunes "Navajo Code Talkers,"
"Summer Eyes," "Flower Box," and "57 Belvedere."
"Papaya Girl" is a calypso song, something very different
from what both Dave and Bruce had written before.
Since Bruce really wanted the authentic sound of steel drums
(steel pans) in this song for a true "Caribbean" feel,
Dave made arrangements for an expert steel pan player
to add music to the tracks.
| Rejoiced Bruce: He has writen 12 songs with Dave inside just two years. |
"Working together with Dave - via email - is so incredible!
If any of you have ever considered doing a song project with Dave,
I highly recommend it! Each song has been an awesome experience,
one that I hope will continue. Dave is so talented with his
musicianship, it is truly amazing. A music genius par excellence."
Most of his songs produced with Dave are downloadable as mp3s
in full length and free of charge. Check out Bruce's songs

CD
Time Before the Fall
Dave's latest album, featuring 12 tremendous songs.
A strong collection of sophisticated songwriting,
rich instrumental expression and top-notch singing.
Subjects ranging from recent historical events like the
1992 LA riots to the Enron scandal, with Dave's memorable
melodies and virtuosic playing supporting the lyrics.
The overall acoustic approach to the CD highlights the songs themselves,
rather than the production. The collaboration with producer/engineer
Ben Decter resulted in some beautifully recorded tracks.
There are some themes of maturity, wistfulness, loss of innocence
and a few "jeremiads" as well - probably not inappropriate
given the time in which the songs were written.
The emotional palette of this CD is probably the widest
that Dave has explored so far.
Recorded in early September of 2006,
the title has a double meaning.
Track listing:
1. Midnight Sea (3:18)
2. George's Corner (3:32)
3. Rude Awakening (3:55)
4. Say Goodbye to the Elephants (4:39)
5. The Invader (4:38)
6. Judas Kiss (3:20)
7. Lucky (3:22)
8. Idols (3:48)
9. Time Before the Fall (3:08)
10. When I See You Again (3:42)
11. College Town (3:24)
12. Walking Shoes (2:33)

You need an RSS reader before you can subscribe to an RSS feed. The reader, also sometimes called a news reader, is what checks your subscriptions for the newest items.
There are mainly two types of RSS readers. One are the Web browser-based readers, such as My Yahoo, Google Reader, Bloglines and Newsgator, that can be used to access
